RAS- Pontiac Coordinators Corner

Dear RAS Parents,

Welcome to the 2015-16 school year. We are very excited to have you and your children as part of the RAS Family. Every staff member has been working diligently to prepare for the return of our students. We have set high expectations and made plans to guarantee that every student at RAS will have the opportunity to be successful this school year.

Student academic, behavioral, and vocational success is the main goal of every staff member at RAS. We believe that every student will learn to the highest level and we are prepared to offer more time and support to every student that needs it. We ask for your support and participation in this effort by sending your child to school every day, encouraging your child daily, monitoring your child’s homework and community/vocational service, and asking your child to share what they learned at school each day.

School begins Monday, August 17 2015. Please call Mrs. Mehrkens at the school at 844-2512 in order to set an orientation appointment before this date or as soon as possible.

In September RAS will celebrate national attendance awareness month. School attendance is essential to academic success, but too often students, parents and schools don’t realize how quickly absences, excused or unexcused, can add up to academic trouble. Chronic absence can lead to third graders unable to master reading, sixth graders failing courses and sophomores dropping out of high school. Please help to honor national attendance awareness month by making sure your student is present daily throughout the 15-16 school year.

We will continue to offer your students project based learning opportunities. We look forward to seeing them grow as individuals as well as team members during these projects. You have some very talented kids and it amazing to see them shine during these activities!

We greatly appreciate your cooperation while kicking off the school year. We look forward to seeing you and your child(ren) at our Student Led Conferences (SLC’s) on October 22nd/23rd 2015 and April 18, 2016, and most of all we are eager to continue making this a successful year.
