I am thrilled to share some of the incredible work of our talented middle schoolers. Our students have been hard at work using the iPads purchased with a grant from the Illinois Prairie Foundation to explore and create digital representations of the 7 Principles of design. The results have been truly impressive! From Balance and Contrast to Emphasis and Scale, our budding artists are showcasing their creativity in the digital realm. The iPads have not only enhanced their learning experience but also provided a dynamic platform for self-expression and innovation. Here are some examples of their wonderful work.

We had a great day hosting the Bloomington Normal Barber College at RAS! Cassius and his students spoke with our students about the process of becoming a licensed barber. Cassius advised RAS students to follow their passion so their chosen career path does not feel like work and they get to do something they truly enjoy every day. We appreciate you all taking the time to come in and speak with our students AND for providing free cuts! 💈💇🏾‍♂️💇🏻‍♂️💇🏼‍♂️💈

Last week all our RAS Art students created Scribble Drawings. Our young artists were asked to quickly draw a continuous line or scribble onto a piece of paper until the entire paper was filled. Then they were asked to take some time and look for familiar objects that they created inside their scribble. Our artists were then asked to trace the objects that they found and finish their scribble drawing by coloring their objects. This assignment is designed to get our young artists thinking about how in the seemingly chaotic scribbles of life, there exists a hidden beauty waiting to be discovered—a tapestry of experiences, lessons, and unexpected joys that, when embraced, create a unique and meaningful masterpiece. Click on the images below to see the great work ou RAS artists produced.

Some graduates were with us for a few months, some for a few semesters, some for a few years, and one was with us since their middle school days! We are proud and hopeful for these students to go on and find success, however that looks for them! Congratulations!

RAS students had the opportunity to help a community neighbor this week. Thursday was a perfect afternoon to help St. Mary's with landscaping and learn valuable skills. Two of our students had the opportunity to help back in the spring and were thrilled to go back and help this week!

Representitives, including RAS alumnus Joshua Wells, shared their experience working in the union and encouraged students to consider a carer in the skilled trades. It is always great when our graduates are able to come back and share their success stories with our current students!
